GRASS PROPAGANDA FOR CHILDREN

It seems the US Americans have been teaching children that surburbia is good and urbanism is bad ever since 1952. Thanks alot!

"The best place to find peace and happiness is in a little house on a little hill way out in the country." I daresay this is how most architects, at least in Norway, still think, 82 years after the death of Ebenezer Howard and 45 years after the death of Le Corbusier. Let lawns and fresh air save the morale of the working classes!

  1. The real question is why the "sustainable" agenda at BAS do not address the real problem , only scratches the surface. Svein Hatløy did a lot of stupid things as a principal, but he had an agenda for the school that challenged the root of the problem. Unfortunately nobody at BAS today continues the open form tradition.

  2. Fem punkter som beskriver suburbia:

    * People buy into the utopian dream
    * But suburban sprawl represents a toxic disconnectedness
    * Isolated houses without community
    * Great deception: “suburbia celebrates nature” – no, it violates nature
    * Replaces nature with dead typologies

    Personlig har jeg stor sans for det alexandrinske "pattern" 37, House Cluster. Særlig har jeg fått respekt for dette "patternet" etter at jeg leste Terje Bongards bok "Det biologiske mennesket", og fant ut hvordan "pattern" 37 harmoniserer med den ideelle størrelsen på ei inngruppe. Bongard mener at hele samfunnet bør organiseres rundt inngruppekonseptet, og her mener jeg Aleksanders husklyngemodell eller lommenabolag kan spille en utrolig viktig rolle.

    Det som er fantastisk er at det nylig har blitt utgitt ei hel bok om "pocket neighborhoods", bygget opp rundt 8 - 12 hus i klynger slik "pattern" 37 foreskriver:

    Pocket Neighborhoods
    Creating Small-Scale Community in a Large-Scale World
    By Ross Chapin
    Taunton Press, 2011, 224 pp., $30 hardcover

    Pattern 37 og bokomtalen kan lastes ned herfra:

  5. "Donald in Mathmagic land" ble laget i 1959, samme år som Oskar Hansen presenterte åpen form - manifestet:
